Sydney, June 17. In the Legislative Assembly today, the Premier, Sir Patrick Jennings, made an announcement respecting the reported French occupation of the New Hebrides. In the course of his remarks he stated that the Government of New South Wales had forwarded through the Agent-General for the Colony a protest against any abrogation of treaty between England and France in reference to the New Hebrides. He promised to immediately represent the views of the deputation to the Governor, and request His Excellency to ask Admiral Tryon to take steps to prevent any interference with the rights and in teres* a of missionaries in the Hebrides.
