ACTION ARISING OUT OF WARING TAYLOR CASE.
Wellington, May 9.
Instructions have boen received from some of the English legatee*, under the will of the late Mr James May, to institute proceedings against Mrs Rhodes for therecovery of the bank shares transferred to her by Waring Taylor in sett'ement of an amouDt appropriated by him from the Rhodes estate while acting as trustee. The value of the shares so transferred was about L 12.000. The action will come before the Supreme Court.
SHIPPING CASUALTIES.
Auckland, May 10,
The Garelock, which came into collision with the Herald in Mmakau harbor, arrived here for repairs. The Rowena in crossing Hokianga bar had her galley carried away bodily, and the stove driven into the saloon, which was filled with water. Two large cans of oil were emptied into the sea but to no effect, as the sea broke ov<.r the vessel in tremendous volumes.
The South Carolina cutter, blown out to sea at Port Charles, has not been heard of sin :o. She was iu a disabled condition. Two men were on board.
The schooner Saxon, from Lyttelton, had a perilous voyage. During a gale the steer, iog apparatus gave way, and the vessel was in a helpless condition, the bulwarks being brokeu to clear the deck. Off Portland Island lights were seen as of a vessel in distress, but the weather being thick those on board could not be sure of it,
