HAVELOCK NEWS.

[FROM OCR OWN CORRESFON OR SIT. ] Messrs [Mills Brothers sale of cattle and horses was held at Havelock on Saturday, June 10, at 2 o’clock p.m., betweeu 20 and 39 head, most young bred, wee put up, the prices realised were from 30s to L 4 per head. Horses brought, L 5 10s for yearlings, L 7 10s for hacks, LlO to L 29 for draught and tr; p horses. Owing to the recent wet and inclement weather, the majority of the stock could not be brought in to the sale. Notice was given of the adjournment of the sale of a town section till Saturday next at noon. It is anticipated that a large mob of cattle and horses will be offered then. HAVELOCK LICENSING COMMITTEE The Court sat at the Court House, Havelock, on Saturday, June 10th, at noon. Present—Messrs Douslin (chairman), Bradshaw, Morison, Perry, and Smith, sen. Mr McNab appeared on behalf of the three applicants, viz.:—Moses Fear, Commercial Hotel; William Dorreen, Post Office Hotel ; and Mary Hutchinson, Masonic Hotel. The police report was favorable to all the applicants, and there were no complaints. A point was raised by Mr McNab that the town of Havelock was not an incorporated borough, but existed under the Picton and Havelock Town Improvement Act within the meaning of section 4, and that it has no common seal. The learned counsel cited section 37 of the Municipal Corporation Act, and he also took exception to the fact of Mr Bradshaw being a member of the commission, but this point was overruled by the Chairman. The Bench were unanimous in agreeing that Havelock was a town within the meaning of the Act. The ordinary license was granted to all the applicants, and midnight licenses granted to Messrs Fear and W. Dorreen. The Chairman and Mr Morison being for, and Messrs Bradshaw and Smith against the granting of midnight licenses.
