STOCK SALES

PRICES AT MORRINSVILLE Show Cattle Sell Well Breeding Ewes in Demand A feature of the Morrinsville stock sales on Friday was the offering of prime steers and heifers which had been exhibited at the Morrinsyille A. and P. Show on Wednesday. A better demand existed for breeding ewes than at recent sales. Details are as follows: — FARMERS’ AUCTIONEERING CO. Prize-winning cattle from the Morrinsville A. and P. Show were included in the entry of beef. These were choice cattle and competition was good, and prices were firm. Steers sold on account of W. McLean (Walton) realised £l4 10s; from Howie Bros. (Kiwitahi), £l4 7s 6d; from F. K. Thomas (Kereone), £l3 17s 6d; from A. I. Batty (Motumaoho), £l3 10s; and from Kereone, Ltd., £ll 12s Gd. In the cow and heifer section cattle from the Morrinsville Show were penned, and the entry was very favourably commented on for quality and finish. Good prices were realised as follows. Heifers from P. E. Harney (Moirinsville), £9 16s to £l2; from F. K. Thomas (Kereone), £lO 4s to £lO 19s; from W. McLean (Walton), £lO to £l2; from A. F. Wills (Walton), £lO Is. ; • &l

There was again a heavy yarding of second quality and boner cows. Heavy Jersey cows were in keen demand, while exporters operated freely for boners. Potter bulls were yarded in heavy numbers and prices showed an improvement, on late sales.

The advertised entry of breeding ewes comprised mostly sheep from Southern districts. Competition showed an improvement on last week’s sales, and prices all round were better. Practically the whole of the yarding changed hands at satisfactory rates. A smaller entry of fat sheep than at the previous sale changed hands at late rates. Store lambs were also penned in smaller numbers, selling on a par with last week’s quotations.

The largest yarding of fat pigs seen at Morrinsville for some time was penned. The entry comprised a good proportion of haconers for which competition was very spirited, with prices right up to recent Waikato advanced rates. -Well-finished porkers also were keenly sought after, and here again late values were fully maintained. Light and unfinished porkers, however,' were slower of sale. The entry of choppers was the largest offered this season, values being an improvement on Frankton quotations. A medium entry of store and weaner pigs came forward, including the advertised entry of boars on account of Mr, Geo. Jamieson, of Horotiu, for which bidding was very spirited, and a complete clearance was effected under the hammer at satisfactory prices. Large stores sold well, while smaller sorts and weaners were dull of sale. Beef.—
