HINUERA TRANSPORT
SUPPLIERS DISSATISFIED An Appeal to Cabinet Dissatisfaction with the transport system and alleging that they had been unfairly treated in the matter of the allotment of general goods service carrying licenses in the district by the Licensing Authority, suppliers of the Hinuera Dairy Company decided on Thursday that if an appeal to the Minister of Transport was not successful a further appeal should be lodged direct to Cabinet. The company had protested to the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, against a recent decision of the Licensing Authority which prevented the carrier holding the company’s cream contract from obtaining a general goods license. In return a questionairre was received applying for the company’s arguments. Mr Hawke said that every question had been clearly answered by members of the directorate in the witness box before the No. 1 Licensing Authority in Hamilton recently. He suggested that an appeal to reconsider that evidence should be lodged to Cabinet.
“ The company had not had fair treatment. As farmers we are entitled to have justice, and we must take drastic measures to solve our problem.
“ If the Government is still carrying on its running-shoe industry, that it should take' the measurements of the No. 1 Licensing Authority,” said Mr. Hawke.
The Hon. J. Cotter, M.L.C., another director, said that if a cream contractor needed three lorries to complete the run i n half a day, the company would have to expect to pay him for a full day’s work for the lorries which were idle in the afternoon owing to the absence of a goods license. That was a waste to the company and to the carrier.
