SOUTH AUCKLAND TITLE Round Results The South Auckland billiards championship is being played at Matamata. Prominent among the competitors is Tierney, a former Auckland champion, who was beaten in the last Auckland championship by the New Zealand title holder, McGuire, 1934 Auckland champion, and Kariti. Simmonds is the only Matamata player to reach the second round. First Round Phillips (Te Aroha)) beat Tremain (Matamata) by 105, secured near the end. Tierney '(Tauranga) beat Oates (Matamata) by 128, scoring breaks of 58 and 55. Oates’ best breaks Were 34 and 33. Simmons (Matamata) beat Brown (Putaruru) by 12. Byrne (Rotorua) .beat Houghton (Matamata) by 48. Ward (Waihi) beat Robinson (Matamata) by 42. , McGuire (Rotorua) and C. Wilson (Matamata) turned on the best game in the round, Wilson taking the lead at 265 to 254 and Anally losing by 500 to 495. Kariti (Matamata) beat Wagstaff (Matamata) by 121. Second Round Tierney beat Phillips by 188.
