INCREASE IN WAGES
TO COUNTY EMPLOYEES Back to 1931 ' A report from the finance and works committee of the Matamata County Council regarding industrial matters and wages to be paid led to a long discussion at Thursday’s meeting. An increase in wages was believed by the committee to be mandatory. The committee unanimously recommended that for men paid at the hourly rate the wages be increased to the rates obtaining fis at March 81, 1931, the adjustment to be left in the hands of the county clerk and the county engineer. Included in the committee’s report was a further recommendation that a conference between the chairman and officers of neighbouring local bodies be convened at the suggestion of the county engineer to discuss wages problems. An amendment to this resolution recommending that on Monday, August 3, Mr. A. F. Moncur, M.P., be invited to attend a meeting of the council to discuss wages problems with a view to obtaining from the Government a definite answer for questions submitted, was lost. |
