MATAMATA CLUB Pennant Matches The second series of matches un■der the auspices of the Waikato East pennant competitions was played during the week-erid. The Matamata teams played Walton and both were successful by substantial margins. The A team won by six matches to nil, with two all square; while the lB team’s victory consisted of five wins, two losses and one all square. A team results, with Matamata players mentioned first, were: L. H. Little beat F. Crawford, 2 and 1. J. Corbett and F. James, all square. H. G. Keeley and H. Johnston, all square. R. Mentiplay beat H. Catlin, 6 and 4. J. Carruthers beat J. Dickey, 4 and 3. N. Johnston beat W. Guy, 3 and 1. H. Conder beat Thomson, 3 and 2. G. Irving beat W. Payne, 7 and 5. The third and final series of these rgames will be played in four weeks’ time, when the Matamata A team will play Morrinsville A at Morrinsviile, while the B teams wiil meet at Matamata. Both Matamata teams Are as yet undefeated. MORRINSVILLE v. PUTARURU The second series of games in the Waikato East pennant competition was played during the week-end, between Putaruru and Morrinsville. Playing at Putaruru the home club’s A team won by 5 and 2, one match being all square. Results were, Pu- ; taruru names first:— G. Gibbs and Cooper, all square. Morris beat Lee, 5 and 4. E. B. Smith beat Ryan, 1 up. R. Rolfe lost to Ross, 2 and 1. A. L. Mason beat Maingay, 1 up.. H. W. Gordon beat Petry, 4 and 3. L. E. Root lost to Howie, 3 and 2. S. A. Tetzner beat Goosman, 5 and 4. - THAMES VALLEY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP The Matamata club sent two' teams, each consisting of four players, to compete for the Somers Shield last Saturday. The shield was won by the Te Aroha A team, with a total gross score of 326. Results were as follow : Te Aroha A, 326; Te Aroha B, 335; Waihi A, 342; Paeroa A, 353; Matama'ta A, 359; Te Aroha C, 359; Te Aroha D, 366; Matamata B, 367; Waihi B, 373; Paeroa B, 376; Walton, 380. The individual scores of the Matamata teams are: — A Team.—L. H. Little, 89; J. Corbett, 93; H. Keeley, 87; R. Mentiplay, 90. B Team.—H. J. Conder, 93; G. Fitzgerald, 100; J. Carruthers, 87; N. Johnston, 87. N. Johnston, with a card of 87— 16, 71, was only one stroke behind the winner of the medal round, and his performance of playing one stroke below his handicap on a strange course was a decidedly good effort. TIMARU CUP "" The SeCond round will be played by members next Saturday. This competition is for the best two out of three Stableford bogey matches. The leaders at the end of the first round are: J. TEAMS MATCH Several teams, each consisting of four players, took part in a sweepstake competition on the King’s Birthday. An 18 hole medal round was played, the team with the lowest nett aggregate being the winner. Results and nett scores were as follows: Keeley 73, McDonald 85, Wayte 88, Sutcliffe 80, total 32G; Buckley 93, Tapp 72, Thomson 81, Wilson BG, total 332; Irving 7G, Carruthers, jum\, 85, Hill 88, Conder 85, total, 334; Little 85, Thorn 87, Mentiplay 82, Cleary 85, total 339; Barkman 90, Gilling 87, Carruthers, senr., 82, Morrison 85, total 344. TIRAU CLUB Following are the results of mixed Canadian foursomes played during the week-end : Bragg and Miss Goodwin, 96 —34, 62; Keane and Mrs. Horscroft, 106—40, 66; Wilson and Miss Hetherington, 112—39, 73; Stewart and Miss Dagg, 97—23, 74; Harvey and Mrs. Naysmith, 110 —36, 74; Shaw and Mrs. Jordan, 126—42, £4; Naysmith and Miss Macgregor, 114—27, 87; Bonney and Mrs. Bragg, 132—27, 105. The match for next week-end is a bogey match for ladies and gentlemen.
