AYRSHIRE BREEDERS

THAMES VALLEY MEETING There was a full attendance of members at a meeting of the Thames Valley Ayrshire Breeders’ Association which was held in Matamata. Mr. A. Jones (Okauia) presided. ’ The meeting was chiefly concerned with national questions which Intimately affected members and in laying down a policy in this respect. Embargo on Stock—lt was agreed to accord full support to the protest against any suggestion of lifting the present embargo on the importation of pedigree livestock from any country affected by foot-and-mouth disease. Registered Bulls. —Mr. A. M. Weir tabled a notice of motion to be forwarded to the national conference, and this received cordial support. The motion was that at the end of two years from June, 1936, no Ayrshire bulls be eligible for registration unless from R.O.P. cows. National Delegate.—Mr. W. H. Oates, of Hinuera, was. appointed delegate to the national conference, and was also nominated for a vacancy on the New Zealand Council. Showing by Members. —The president congratulated members on the showing, made at Matamata and other district shows, and expressed the hope that in a very short while the Ayrshire exhibits at these would be oh a .par with any other breed in regard to both quality and quantity. National ; Sale. —ln view of the fact' that the first national sale of Ayrshire stock was to be held at Claudelands, it was decided, in order not to clash with this fixture, to abandon the suggestion to hold a Matamata sale under the auspices of the association this year. Ayrshire Bulls. —A short discussion on the big demand for Ayrshire bulls resulted in a decision to take steps to meet this position, particular of which will be announced later, aR.d farmers were urged to delay purchasing bulls in the meantime.
