LOCAL BUTTER MARKET.

VIEWS AT HINUERA.

“ Great Deal of Overlapping.”

Referring to the local market for butter, Mr. J. E. West, chairman of the Hinuera Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., stated at the annual meeting that there was a great deal of overlapping in selling. Some Waikato companies were sending butter to North Auckland and competing with companies there. An effort had been made to block this, but two companies had stood out and so had wrecked the scheme. He thought everyone would agree that their butter was worth a premium on London prices for local sales.

Replying to Mr. P. Hawke, the chairman said that 55 per cent, of the Hinuera Company’s butter was sold f.0.b., and 45 per cent, was exported on consignment. The f.o.b. sales had proved to be considerably better than export sales, but all returns had not yet come to hand.

Mr. Hawke asked if there were any bad debts in the merchants’ accounts of £2BOI.

Mr. West replied that he thought £lO would cover all bad debts.

Quality of Butter.

Mr. Hawke said he was sorry to see in the Record that Morrinsville farmers had blamed mammitis for the pobr quality of some of the New Zealand butter. He was pleased to note Mr. Rowson had been satisfied I with the quality. Mr. West agreed, and pointed out competent observers had remarked that the most damaging statements in regard to the industry cariie from within, the industry. (Applause.)
