Party at Te Poi.
MRS. C. A. STQPFQKD HONOURED
Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Stopford were honoured by Te Poi residents recently, when 30 self-invited guests formed themselves into a surprise party on the occasion of Mrs. Stopford’s 73rd birthday. A very happy evening was spent with cards and games.
During- the evening Mr. F. C. Whytcross referred to the universal esteem with which Mr. and Mrs. Stopford were regarded. They were recognised by all as the father and mother of Te Poi because of the large-hearted manner in which they were ever ready to give help : to all who needed it. In lighter vein Mr. Whytcross said that that evening, however, Mr. Stopford did not enter the picture. The evening was specially Mrs. Stopford’s, and the speaker congratulated her on attaining another birthday in good health. Mrs. Stopford had always been a real mother to all, no matter what their, age. In an unassuming manner she had always been on the .look-out to. do a good turn, and her many kind actions would never be forgotten. All her friends hoped she would' continue to enjoy good health and have, many more birthdays. In reply Mr. Stopford thanked Mr. Whytcross and those present for their kind expressions. Anything his wife and himself had done had given them the utmost pleasure. Musical honours were accorded Mr. and Mrs. Stopford.
