Women’s Institute.
MORRINSVILLE BRANCH.
Mrs. Starnes (acting president) opened the July meeting of the Women’s Institute by reading the creed, members standing. An apology for absence was received from Mrs. Pole.
Mesdames Irvine and Chapman and Misses J. Gifford and B. Jackson were welcomed as new members. An invitation was received from-the Motumaoho Institute for August. The motto for July is, “ She is a true friend who is a friend in need.” A competition was held, members being asked to make a child’s garment from two skeins of wool. Mesdames Jenkin and Harden were the judges, and awarded first place to [ Mrs. Welch, who made a pair of pilchers. The garments are to be i handed to the Mayoress for the relief depot. Mr. R. A. S. Browne gave an interesting talk on “ Pruning,” which he demonstrated with specimens of various fruit trees.
The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Fultbn, McLeod, Faulkner and C. M. Osbourne.
