HEAVY TRAFFIC PERMITS.

MATAMATA APPLICATIONS.

Approved by County Council.

A large number of applications for permits for lorries under the heavy traffic regulations were received by the Matamata County Council at its July meeting.

The engineer pointed out that for such permits the weather and the classes of goods to be carted had to be watched.

Cr. J. Pohlen urged that it would be unfair to expect manure to be left at a railway station because of wet weather.

The chairman (Cr. J. W. Anderson) remarked that it was often a better proposition to unload manure into a shed than to put chains on a lorry’s wheels.

Permits Granted.

Applications for permits for heavy traffic were then approved from the following: Butler and Wheaton, Matamata; G. G. Rainger, Ltd., Putaruru ; H. Millen, Matamata ; R. Barlow, Hinuera; H. Wilkinson, Okauia; J. W. Ross (up to three tons); A. G. Libeau, Peria; E. Wilson, Tirau; R. F. Pulman; J. H. B. Morris, Putaruru; P. L. Guillard, Putaruru; W. S. Goosman, Ltd., Waitoa.

It was decided to advise one applicant that he would have to use a lighter lorry under his permit to comply with the three-ton class.

Several other applications were held over for the clerk and engineer to deal with.

Councillor’s Comment.

Cr. J. Bruce remarked that he thought that the council was getting ahead with its effort to protect the roads under its jurisdiction. In the majority of cases he felt that applicants for permits had done their best to respect the conditions laid down for each road.
