Women’s Institute.
MOTUMAOHO BRANCH. At the July meeting of the Motuniaoho branch of the Wornen’s Institute, held on Wednesday, the president (Mrs. Sang) presided over a good attendance. Members brought knitted squares for the relief quilt, and during the afternoon three ladies joined the squares together. It was decided to buy five shillings’ worth of tickets in aid of the Hamilton Y.M.C.A. The roll call,. “ Soup Recipes,” brought forth many good cooking hints.
Demonstrations of rugmaking and Florentine tapestry were much appreciated.
Two songs delightfully rendered by Miss Rutland added to the enjoyment of the afternoon.
The Morrinsville branch has been invited to attend the August meeting, when there will be demonstrations of making cane trays and Darjeeling work.
WAITOA BRANCH. At the July meeting of the Waitoa branch last week Mrs. Fleming presided and led community singing. An interesting address on “ Institutes in the Old Country,” by Mrs. Simpson, of Morrinsville, was appreciated, and samples of bead work done by Old Country members were on view. - A demonstration cm foot stools made from tins was given by Mrs. H. Kerr. A competition for the best butterscotch was won by Mrs. Williams. A further competition for the best home-made slippers was .won by three ladies, each gaining points in order of merit. i Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Mac Lean, Johnson, Hight, K. Hight and McCallum.
