LADIES’ SHIELD MATCHES. “ Unaffiliated Clubs.” Much dissatisfaction was expressed at the annual meeting of the Te Aroha Hockey Club at the method adopted by the Piako Association for competition for the shield in ladies | matches. It was stated that the shield was open for competition by sub-associations who were affiliated to the central body. Mr. H. Ward, speaking on the matter, said that 75 per ymt of the money had been subscribed for the trophy in Te Aroha, and they had a right to demand from the association, if the teams competing for it were affiliated and directly represented on its executive and not merely sub-associations. The secretary reported that at the general meeting of the Piako Association, at which he was a delegate, there had been a general movement in favour of competition throughout the sub-associations for the trophy. A motion was passed that the Te Aroha delegates to the next meeting raise a strong objection to the shield being competed for by other than fully affiliated clubs.
