TOWN PUNNING ACT.
REGIONAL AREAS. Affecting Counties. “ Once upon a time I thought that the Town Planning Act did not affect us, but I am now beginning to think otherwise,” stated Cr. J. W. Anderson, chairman of Matamata County Council, at the March meeting of that body. In a brief statement of the position, Cr. Anderson stated that the Town Planning Act originally was to be enforced in 1930, but an amendment last session suspended operation till 1932. The Town Planning Board was now taking evidence for and against regional schemes, and was sitting at present in Invercargill and would work up. All counties would be brought in, but under what, manner had to be considered. Counties would »be liable to a rate of l-50th of a penny to pay for maps, etc. The chairman then made the remark quoted at the head of this article, and continuing stated that an instance was an application at present before the council for petrol pumps in Tirau. It was hard to know where to put these with due regard to parking spaces, etc. The chairman then pointed out that the township of Tirau was really twisted about from a town planning point of view, the business places. being . on. the hill, where the residences should be, and vice versa. In due course the town planning committee would meet, possibly in Hamilton, when the county could give evidence.
