(Maungatautari). Also, in attendance: were Messrs. C. F. E.. Barton (clerk.)) and M. E. Fitzgerald;(^engineer). Heavy Traffic Fees. The Hamiltom Borough Council wrote asking if the council was peer* ! pared to accept, the present allocation ; of heavy traffic fees for the coming ° ' year. ... , Cr. Anderson stated that this yeaor L : there did not seem to be any objec1 tions. Last year -.Matamatac town Board had objected, but they seemed
[ to be satisfied now. .. • ■ > The council decided to approve the l allocation. . Hmuera Quarry. Messrs. H. G. Barrett, C. B. Jongs, | R. Grantharti, A. Allport, A. Grantham, J. Bowers and •H. A. Mathie- > son wrote asking the to open 5 up a quarry on Mr. Barrett’s pro-
perty. The quarry was situated on a cliff rising out of a creek, and it * would be necessary to put in a culvert before the stripping could be 5 cleared away. The signatories offered to put in the culvert if the council would supply the pipes. T The matter was left in the hands • of the engineer and riding member. 1 The Department of Lands and vey advised that it was intended to 1 proclaim as a public road a certain f area in Morgan’s block, near Matamata. —Received. t Thanks. jJ 5 The Putaruru Pine and Pulp Co. ' wrote thanking the council for repairing the Waotu-Lichfield road and the manner in which the work had 3 been done by the engineer.—Re- ' ceived. ■ -
Rates Objected To. 3 Mr. W. Watt, of Ongaroto, on the T.T.T. line, forwarded his rates under protest, and stated the amount had gone up 150 per cent in two years. As he did not use an inch of county road and had no access he asked to he struck off the rate roll. He paid no rates on the Ongaroto side, and idle Public Works Department would not do anything in thftmatter. In a matter of sickness -or death there was no road available^ Cr. Cox stated he had a legal road to his place, but it was not formed. He was absolutely shut in and dependent on the T.T.T. line. He could have got a grant years 'ago, but he would' not allow the Public Works to go through the middle of a paddock. In any case he could *'

Cox: Yes; they went up frß*n -J* £i- ■ •“* V( A councillor: It’s just one big - shout. (Laughter). The letter was received. Tirau Water. The by-laws affecting the. supply of •#„- water in the Tirau township, which j had been duly advertised, were adopted. - • . Advertising the District. The Matamata -Chamber of Commerce wrote asking the council’s financial assistance in producing a booklet to advertise the district. The majority of councillors thought the scheme would benefit'the town more than the county. Cr. Wilson was the only member to support the idea, holding that, in his opinion it would cover the whole district and induce settlement. Cr. Allen thought settlement would come if the economic price was right. Cr. Dee stated they wanted their money for roads and bridges. ' , The council decided to decline the request. . Leslie’s Road. Cr. Morriss stated that Mr. Leslie‘S had offered to plough' his up if , the council would grade same. The offer was accepted, and the matter left with the engineer and ' - riding member.
