MATAMATA SHOW.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A Financial Success. There was an air of genuine satisfaction at the meeting of the executive of the Matamata A. and P. Association on Wednesday, when Mr. W. S. Wilson, president, occupied the chair. The chairman stated the meeting was called to consider payment of prize moneys, etc. He felt that when the secretary read the. financial statement everyone would feel satisfied. They had had a show at least as successful as the previous one. He felt all were satisfied with the judging, the display and the organisation. He had spoken to outside judges and they were very complimentary indeed in their remarks. His opinion was that the stock was in the district, and there. was no reason at all why the Matamata show should not be as good as any country show in New Zealand. He desired to thank all those who had given their assistance in making the show the success it was. All had worked with a will; their sole idea being to make the show a success. (Applause). «• ;i! • f 1 v ... Financial. The secretary, Mr. F. Banks, then read a provisional statement w T hich showed the following figures:— Credit: Cash in hand, £510; subscriptions outstanding, £120; miscellaneous, including entries and implement space outstanding, £140; total, £750. On the debit side the chief items were: Prize money, £350; miscellaneous, £160; balance, £240. Commenting on the statement, the president stated that he felt the full prize money should be paid out. It had paid them last year, and. he moved that they do the same this year. * Mr. Stevens seconded the motion, ' which was carried unanimously. Suggestions. Mr. Wilson then stated that it would be wise if members brought forward suggestions for. improving next year’s show, or any complaints. Mr. Higgins stated that in his opinion an outrageous price was charged for hot water. One shilling a pot was far too high, and was not fair to the public. The chairman stated that the supplying of hot water was let with the booth to the caterer. All they could do was to limit the price charged next year. IsMr. Rollett stated he felt they should lose money on the hot water rather than the public should be overcharged . Mr. Higgins stated he felt it should be made known the committee was not responsible. On the motion of Messrs. West and Gould, it was decided to recommend to the incoming committee that hot water be supplied at next show by the committee. ' Mr. West suggested sloping boards in thp flower section for displaying dahlias, etc. —Adopted. Mr. Higgins stated that many people missed the chopping and trotting events owing to- their being no indication board. He suggested this be put in thp ring.—Adopted. Mr. Garland suggested that about 100 posters be printed with the approximate times of each event so that people would know at what time and place various events -were due. —Adopted. Mr. Stevens mentioned that one of the side show men had suggested that a plan of the. space available should be drawn up, sa> that they would know what area: they were choosing. Mr. Payze thought, such, a matter should not be left for the incoming committee, but should! be done now while it was fresh in their minds. Mr. West remarked! there was too much congestion around the refreshment tent and booth; The chairman named a side show man who had defied, the committee two years running,. He recommended he be refused space next year. The above suggestions were adopted. / Mr. Thirlwall urged that dairy cattle should be judged first as some of the cows, were left too, long without being milked. It only meant putting the bulls last.—Adopted. Mr. Garland suggested schedules be sent out about three months earlier. Mr. Banks urge'll more leaflets should be printed'. He obeyed in-, structions and 'got the number of schedules ordered, but they weru gone in no time to members.—Adopted. , • Mr. Thirlwall pointed out that prizes, tickets did not have the class (Continued in Next Column)
and section on, but only the winner’s name.—Noted. Mr. Young urged that next year an assistant be put in the office, so that the secretary could get on the road for entries. Mr. Stevens approved the idea, but held the secretary’s place was in the office, as he was responsible for the cash. A canvasser might be put on. Mr. Wilson agreed, and stated that entries should close earlier, as it was too much of a rush at the last minute.—Adopted.
