LICHFIELD
A meeting of the Lichfield daivy farmers was held recently to consider the question of the erection of a local butUr factory or perhaps? a local cheese factory. Mr. W. Morrison presided, and Mr. A. C. Milyn, an' exresident -of Lichfield, and a former director of the New Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Association, addressed. the meeting on the question. He said that a butter factory would cost £30,09?. of which a third would have to be provided beforehand by the intending suppliers. Also, to make the venture more profitable than the present system of sending the butterfat to Ngaruawahia, the output of the factory would have to be 1,500 tons of butter per annum. The cost of a cheese factory would be £SOOO, of which, also, the intending suppliers would have to provide a third beforehand. It was agreed that there were not yet enough cows in the district to warrant the erection of a factory; also the provision of a third of the cost by the settlers would not at present be feasible. The matter was accordingly deferred. It has been decided that the next public social and dance at Lichfield shall bo held during the forthcoming holidays.
