CRUSADER CAMP

QUEENSTOWN tn MUCH FAVOUR

The visit to Queenstown of over 30 high school girls from Otago and Southland during the past ten days has proved a most enjoyable one from every point of view. Going by the name of Crusaders, the girls form an integral part of the Crusader movement of New Zealand which is associated with an Empire-wide organisation working amongst secondary school girls and boys. ' The work was established in New Zealand some eleven years ago by Dr J. M. Laird, M.8., Ch.B., a young Scottish doctor who is the general secretary, and Miss Margaret McGregor, M.A., is the senior lady staff worker. Today there are live staff workers doing hold work, of whom Miss Mary Thomson, who is in charge of the Queenstown party, is one. The head office for the Dominion is in Wellington. The movement is undenominational, drawing officers, staff workers, voluntary helpers from all the Protestant denominations. Its motto is “Witnesses Unto Me.” In the present amp there arc representatives from Otago, Southland, Gore, and Balclutha Girls’ High Schools, Lawrence District High School, Southland and Otago Technical Colleges, and Columbia College, Dunedin.

The Crusaders are quartered in the District High School and Manual Training School which have proved eminently suitable. They have had ample opportunity of viewing the sights of the town and have visited Here Lake, where a glorious day was spent last Monday. Sport has also entered into the programme as well as certain times for study. The party consider there is no better place in New Zealand for a Crusader camp than in Queenstown. With its wide variety of outdoor activities, it affords ample scope for a balanced camp programme. The leaders desire to take the opportunity of publicly thanking, in particular, the school committee., the residents of Queenstown and the tradespeople who have shown their generosity and help in many ways, contributing in a large degree to the successful running of the camp.

It’s a queer thing, but some men can’t toll good tobacco from bad. Anything wdll do them, so long as it’s tobacco. Most smokers, however, know what’s what. The ideal tobacco should possess not only tine flavour and aroma, but admit of free indulgence without giving the smoker a raw throat o' a sore tongue. And such tobaccos are not quite as common as postage stamps. But 'haprpiiji, Jme Now Zealand lovers of tfk%e*it"eed wo have here, grow’n and manufactured wdthin the Dominion, tobacco fully answering the requirements of even the most fastidious smoker. The fame of the true toasted brands has now spread, be it noted, far beyond the confines of Ncrv Zealand, and both for flavour and fragrance they compare favourably with any loaf coming to us from over the water, while their purity (assured bytoasting) is such that they may bo smoked with impunity, as freely as desired. The original and only genuine toasted tobaccos are Cut Plug No 10 (Bullahead), Cavendish, Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Bivcrhcad Gold and Desert Gold; also tailormadcs. Ail toasted.

Details of the most extensive scheme yet undertaken by the Housing Construction Department were printed on Saturday in a special message from Auckland. About 8000 houses arc to he built at Tamaki on an area of 2000 acres. ‘‘No fewer than 11 schools will be provided, and the site will bo planned to provide open squares, recreation areas and shopping, communal and social centres.”
