The Palmerston North B.S.A. held a special meeting to discuss military defaulters. The meeting carried a resolution that they be deprived of civil rights for 10 years, held in detention for 12 months after the war or until all the men and women serving overseas have been rehabilitated, and debarred from employment in any Government institutions. The meeting also demanded that the Government’s attitude be declared immediately.
Three prim, elderly maiden ladies were exercising their prize Pomeranian. Imagine their disgust when the dog darted through the swing doors of the Royal Oak Hotel. They could hardly enter such a place, and the only thing left to do was to enlist the aid of a passing workman. “Will you please kindly fetch our dog from the hotel?" one of them said. “Certainly, lady, certainly," willingly replied the man. “Which bar was you in?"
