ARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL
The ordinary meeting of the Arrow Borough Council was held on Tuesday, December 5. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. B. Gibb), Cm J. W. Reed, G. H. Pittaway, E. L. Thompson, W. J. Shaw, J. H. Douglas, and D. G. Anderson.
It was resolved that the by-law re casual traders be enforced. It was decided to erect a shed to store the sanitary float and implements.
Mr Jas. Shaw 7 was thanked for his report of the Otago Central Power Board's meeting. The Town Clerk, Queenstown, wrote regarding a motor ambulance for the district. —It was decided that the council's previous resolution bo adhered to. .
The Health Inspector's report was tabled.
The Resident Engineer, Alexandra, notified an increase in holiday pay pay from 5 per cent, to S per cent.
The dog tax was fixed the same as last year and Mr Ritchie was appointed collector at the usual remuneration.
Or. J. H. Douglas tendered his re-' signation from the council. He thanked the council for their support and co-operation stating that the help he had received from the council had made his duties as chairman of the works committee most pleasant.
The council accepted his resignation with regret and it w ? as moved that a minute of appreciation be entered in the minute book. The chairman of the Works Committee reported that certain grader work had been completed. Fire plugs had- been attended to. The mower had been put in order and w 7 as ready to commence mowing. It w T as suggested that all borough property be gathered up and stored. It was decided to notify property owmers to trim hedges and clean up
noxious weeds, etc. It was resolved to have the hall windows refrosted and blinds procured. Mr Douglas intimated that he had been custodian of the library since 1927 and was prepared to continue as such providing arrangements could be made for someone in Arrowtown to give out the books during the daytime. Mrs Erridge had consented to do so and Mr Douglas was thanked for his past services and requested to continue same.
Cr. Thompson stated that a test had been made of the water supply and it was found that there was not sufficient water coming along the race to meet the demand of fire hoses.-—lt was decided that fully supply of water be put in the race. His Worship the Mayor reported that he had seen Mr Heller and that a satisfactory agreement had been made in regard to by-wash water.
Mrs J. W. Reed applied for a section owned by the borough and His Worship and Cr. W. J. Shaw were appointed to confer with Mrs Reed.
Messrs T. A, Johnston and E. J. Saunders w r ere nominated to fill the
vacancies as councillors. Accounts amounting to £69/6/3 were passed for payment.
