LOCAL AND GENERAL
In the Atheneum Hall tomorrow evening a farewell social will be tendered by Arrow town and district residents to Mr and Mrs P. J. .McBride and family, who are leaving the district. The function will take the .form of la card party and dance. Supper will be provided. The annual (Citizens’ Tall! held in the Atheneum Hall, Arrowtown, on Friday evening last, was again a great success,. There was a large attendance. all parts of the district as well as Queenstown and C 'omwe.ll being represented.. This year the net proceeds are being donated- to Patriotic funds a.'id these will materially benefit as the result. First-class, music was supplied by McNamara’s dance band and the duties of MJC.’sl were carried out by Messrs W. Miinqr and €.. L. Johnston.. Supoer arrangements wer6 in the hands of the _lad-< ies and left nothing- to be desired. Dancing was kept going with much) spirit until an early hour. In response to the request of His Majesty the King Jfor a national day of prayer, special intercession services were held in the local churches on Sunday morning last. The members of the A now Fire Brigade held a church parade and attended the service at St. Paul’s Anglican church.
