BOROUGH ELECTION
(To the Editor)
pear Sir—lt is encouraging to know that there is to be an election. Except for the expenditure, a peat deal of good may come of it, if only it stirs the rate-payers to a sense of their civic responsibilities, and to mvestimate the. sins of omission and commission of our counci Ilioirs. In the latest edition of the “Wakatip Mail” ‘Civic’ suggests that the three candidates. for' election present themselves for examination. If they do. at least one important question will be put to each one—“ Are you in favoup of the slow-mot:on picture now being screened on the waterfront?”' This particular program must be a costly business for someone —£14 per week, at least. It has been showing now for some weeks, and present indicaations. point to it continuing for several weeks, yet. A change in the program is long over-due. The men in the picture are drawing in the vicinity of 20s daily, working 35 hours, weekly—that is, after the halfhour smokos arc deducted, and allowing for starting at the appointed time. In the Borough there is. a Chairman 1 of Works, and also an overseer. _lf these men don’t know what is going on they are the only poonle in the town who don’t know. With a. costly war on. one would think that some of this, money could be used to. better advantage in other directions.. I am. etc.. RATEPAYER.
