LOCAL MANUAL TRAINING
QUEENSTOWN’S BEQUEST. An application from the Queenstown school committee for the establishment of a 'manual training school -at Queenstown was received by the Southland Education Board at . .its meeting on Friday last. A letter supporting the application was received from the secretary of the Lower Shotover school committee. “We wish to express our unanimous decision to co-operate with the Queenstown committee in its application,” the letter said. “Since the majority of our children in after school life follow practical rather than professional lines we feel tjha-tt the development of this particular aspect of their education is of the most vital importance.” “I have a lot of time for a case like this, particularly in a place like Queenstown,” said the chairman (Mr S. Eice), who suggested that representations be made to the Department of Education to appoint two instructors. “I think that if it is possible for the department to approve of temporary appointments, ’ we could cope with the work.” Mr F. G. Stevenson remided the board that there was also the establishment of a manual training centre at Nightcaps to be considered. It was decided to refer the matter to the appointments committee to discuss along with the Nightcaps proposal. . . .1 1 ;
