Work was resumed in the three local hydraulic sluicing claims yesterday A dance in aid of the piano fund will be held in the Oibbston schoolhouse on Friday evening next. The new piano, which arrived last week, will be in use on that occasion. Attention is directed to Messrs McGill and Saunders’ change of advertisement in this issue. The firm has also a large xquantity of table potatoes on hand, and householders are asked to get a quotation before purchasing elsewhere. The fortnightly social was held in St. Patrick’s schoolroom on Wednesday evening last, when there was a large attendance. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs J. W, Beed and Mr Boyce Snell, and the consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs C. L. Johnston and Master T. McEntyre. Supper was. provided by the ladies, after which dancing was indulged in, the music being supplied by Mr Beg. Boman’s orchestra. Mr F. Davis, assistant curator for the Otago Acclimatisation Society, who has been engaged in stripping fish at Hayes Creek, returned to Dunedin on Friday last. The season was not favourable, the total number of ova obtained being 1,300,000. Mr J. B. Benson, 8.D.5., will visit Arrowtown next Tuesday.
