Revaluation of Land.
RELIEF NEEDED FOR FARMERS. Mr Bodkin, M.P. for Central Otago, speaking in the House on 17th hist, with respect to the revaluation of land, stated that some of the recent valuations that had come under his notice were not in conformity with the present price of primary produce. The valuations were eonsideraoly higher than they should be and unless there was a substantial increase in prices a revision of these valuations would be necessary before .ong. In the case of soldier settlem most of the concessions hail been given to those settlers who got into dilficuities shortly after they got possession 01 the property. Tiio.ro were many who,, having a little capital and experience, had been able to carry on up to the present time but only with the greatest difficulty. Many of them to-day were in a desperate position and could only 'remain on their holdings if they received substantial reductions in rent. The Teviot, Gladbrook and Poplar Grove settlements were cases in point, it was in the best interests of the State that Hietae lands should be kept in a high state of production and this could only be obtained if rentals wore kept at a figure in conformity with the prices ruling for primary produce.
