The Estimates.
DBAjSTIC DEDUCTIONS. The Estimates which have been presented to the House of llepresinntatives, reveal drastic reductions in Departmental expenditure. The pruning knife has been applied with much severity in Otago, where some heavy reductions have been made. Several items of interest to this district are included in the Estimates, the principal being: Queenstown Deserves —£150 (last year £112). Improvements, Queenstown God Club— £SO. Glade House, Lake Te Anau, akafipu and Milford Track maintenance, including furniture and repairs and compensation to workmen £4500 (compared with £0557 expended in 1050-51). . . . Maintenance of steamers and jetties at Lakes To Anau and Manal)ou il —£50 (£3B). Coach, motor and steamer services.—Lake Wakatipu steamers’ maintenance £12,500 (compared with £1.8,000 last year); Lumsden-Te Anau, £l5O (£150); Te Anau-Glade House, £2O (£26). The sum of £SOO is set aside under the Internal A flairs Department for a reduction in the deer herds 1 in certain districts, the amount expended i last year being £3766.
