Plunket Day.
NEXT SATURDAY. Next Saturday is being advertised as Plunket Day in Queenstown. In the afternoon a cake sale will be held in the Town Hall, and in the evening a dance takes place in jhe Garrison Hall. Though the great humanitarian work of the Plunket Society is now widely known far beyond the bounds of this Dominion where the movement had its birth, a few statements of fact connected with its activities will be in season in view of the effort * that it is to be made locally at the week-end.
Approximately 65 per cent of the babies born in the Dominion come directly under* the care of the Plunket nurses. Since the Society commenced its operations the total death rate of infants has been reduced to less than a quarter of what it was. And from year to year statistics continue to show an improvement in the figures. This is surely irrefutable evidence of and eloquent testimony to the efficacy of Plunket methods No organisation is doing greater work for the State and ior the people who comprise it. Coming nearer home, it will be admitted that this district is fortjunate in having successfully established a branch of the Plunket Society; and, further, that it* is under no small debt of gratitude to those who ha.ve worked unceasingly in its interests. Plunket Day will offer an opportunity of making recognition of the public spirit of the promoters and of the committee by affording them loyal support ot the appeal which is being made next Saturday for assistance.
