THE ELECTIONS.
CITY RESULTS. DUNEDIN. Mr H. L. Tapley, the Citizens’ League nominee, was elected Mayor of Dunedin, the voting being as follows: —H. L. Tapley, 4378, C. W. Hayward, 3266, D. Larnach 3218. The polling was very light, only 10,772 persons out of a roll of 23,226 recording their votes. With one exception, that of Mr J. E. MacManus (Labour), the Citizens League ticket of twelve was elected to the City Council. WELLINGTON. For Wellington City Mr R. A. Wright, M.P., was re-elected after an exciting contest, there being only 254 votes between him and the Labour candidate, Mr Peter 'Fraser, M.P. CHRISTCHURCH. The Christchurch Mayoralty election resulted in the return of Mr J. A. Fiesher (Citizens’ Association) with 10,312 votes as against 8395 for J. Sullivan, M.P., (Labour), INVERCARGILL. Mr Andrew Bain was elected Mayor of Invercargill with the biggest majority ever experienced in the Southland capital. The figures were; A. Bain 4004, T. D. Lonnie 1500. The interest desplayed by the public in the Municipal elections in Invercargill is described as phenomenal. A substantial majority declared for the re-ins tatement of the Wednesday half-holiday. Both loan proposals —for the Tepid Baths and the Fire; Board—-were carried. Mr A AV. Rodger gained an easy victory over Mr Hinchey in the Power Board poll, while Mr John Mathcson, Misses Dryburgh and H. L. Birss, wore returned again for the three vacant seats on the Southland Hospital Board.
