Dunedin this day. Wellington proposes to erect a new opwa house at a cost of .£IOO,OOO. The Nelson boy who, acting on his parents' orders, refused to enrol, has paid his fine and left the country.
Lord Islington arrived by the first express yesterday. He will open the Winter Show in the Agricultural Hall at half past two to-day. It is estimated that fifty thousand people lined the roads through which the late T. E. Taylor's funeral cortege passed.
The election to fill the vacant Christchurch seat will be in about a fortnight's time. L. M. Isitt will probably stand in the prohibition interest. J. D. Hall will stand fot the Opposition, Christchurch North, and thcLabour party will select a candidate en Friday. 6. M. Thompson, M.P., is to ask a question in Parliament as to the advisability of taking steps to rid the country of Maori missionaries.
