OBITUARY.
THE LATE MR A. Gr. MILLWAKD. The following tributes have been paid by the local papers to the memory of the late Mr A. G. Millward, late stationmaster at Hastings, who died on the 27th December last. The ' Hawkes Bay Tribune' says: "Of a courteous and obliging disposition, the late Mr Millward made a host of friends during his term at the local office and the large circle of acquaintances with whom his official duties brought him in contact received the announcement of his demise with great pain and sonow. By his death Hastings has lost one of its noblest citizens and the Railway Department an officer it can ill-afford to be deprived of. During his short residence in Hastings he has set an example that most of us would do well to follow."
The ' Daily Telegraph' says : " The deceased gentleman, who had been in charge of the Hastings railway station for about two years, earned a wide reputation fcr his unvarying courtesy, the conscientious discharge of his many duties, his rigid impartiality in dealing with all classes of the community, and his strict enforcement of the rules of the service affecting the safety and comfort of the travelling public. He was an ideal stationmaster from the public point of view, and his lofty sense of duty caused him to be held in the very highest esteem by everyone who came into contact with him officially, whilst, in his private capacity, his sterling character made him many firm friends throughout the district.
