CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The monthly meeting was held at Invercargill on Thursday last, when all the members were present, except the Chairman (Mr A. F. Hawke), who is still in Christchurch.

Business of local interest was as 'ollows:—-

Dr Valentine, Inspector-General of Hospitals, noted that the Board had decided that both hospitals in the Lakes district shall remain open, provided that each district found .£2OO towards their upkeep. He referred with pleasure to the retention of Dr Thomson's services, and regretted to hear that Dr Douglas had found it necessary to resign .—Received. The officer-in-eharge, Arrowtown Telephone Exchange, intimated that the telephone connection at Arrowtown between the Arrow Hospital and the Exchange was to be cancelled. —Position to be explained to the Inspector of Telephones for the district.

Walter Manson tendered his resignation as wardsiuan at Frankton Hospital. He took the opportunity to express thanks to the late Wakatipu Hospital Trust, to Dt Douglas, to Nurse Clare, and to the Boaid for much kindness and consideration shown to him during the past six years.—Resignation accepted with regret; testimonial to be forwarded; applications to be invited for the position. Repoets. Wakatipu Hospital.—Dr Douglas, resident surgeon at Frankton Hospital, reported that 3 males and 1 female patient remained in the institution on Ist August; admitted during month, 6 males; discharged, 4 males; remaining Ist September, 5 males and one female. One outpatient had been treated. Arrow Hospital.—Dr Thomson, resident surgeon at Arrow Hospital, reported that 4 and one female patient remained in the hospital on Ist August; admitted during the month, 4 males and 1 female; discharged, 5 males; remaining Ist September, 2 males and 2 females. One male patient had died, and one out-patient was treated. Certain articles for the hospital were requisitioned.
