Daring Train Robbery.
THIEF IN A MASK. A daring train robbery, carried out under extraordinary circumstances, was committed recently on the night express travelling between Berlin and Norderney. The victims were Frau Noelle, wife of a high official of the Ministry of Finance, her three children and a maid who was travelling in a reserved first-class compartment. All the carriages on the train were 0:1 the corridor system. During the dead of night, while the train was travelling at full speed, a man in a long cloak, masked, and with his face darkened, entered the compartment and presented a pistol at Frau Noelle, demanding her money or her life. He received from the ladv 700 marks, and then cleared the three children and the nur.se of their possessions, still covering them with his revolver. He escaped through the widow on to the step-board which runs along the length of the car, and estaped. An alarm was soun led by Frau Noelle, and the train was brought to a standstill, but no trace could be found of the robber. The boldness of this robbery and the apparent ease with which it was carried out under such a rigorous system as prevails in Germany has added a new terror to railway travelling.
