QUEENSTOWN PLUNGERS V. ARROW JUNIORS. r On Saturday afternoon teams of the above Clubs met on the Queenstown gronu I to play the return match of the season. The weather was fine and a good attendance of spectators—about 150, including i sprinkling of the fair sex—and considerable interest was taken in the game throughout. In facing each other the opposing teams appeared to be equally matched as to size and age, and the result (10 points to nil) was consequently a surprise. The result, however, is attributable chiefly to one striking feature in the tatics of the Queenstown side namely, the clever passing of the boys, which contributed in no small degree to their decisive victory. J. M'Bride, captain, won the toss-no and C. lllingworth, the Arrow captain, kicked-off, shortly after M 'Bride got the ball and took it into the Ariow twenty-five, where scrum after scrum took place. The Queenstown forwards, headed by W. Powell, A. Robertson anil W. Green, then dribbled over the line, Powell eventually falling on the ball, seeured the first try, which Lorden converted into a goal. On being kicked-off Anderson (Queenstown) secured the ball but failed to improve his opportunity and, leaving it in the Arrow twenty lives, when llling worth, Bennett and King shownd up in good form, until the leather was caught by Warren, who made a very accurate pass to Si Bride who, after a very brilliant run, secured a try just behind the posts. The kick at goal was a failure, From the kick-off A. Robertson (who was playing a sterling came) got possession of the bail and brought it into the At row twenty-five when Jenkins (Arrow) secured it and smartly ran down the field finishing off by kicking out of bounds. After the throw-in the ball was rushed right onto the Arrow goal line when the ball was smartly forced by an Arrow back. After a little give and take play half-time was called. Queenstown, in Kicking-off, landed the hall well into the Arrow territory, when the Arrow forwards showed great determination, but they were unable to get past the three-quarters (Anderson, Robertson and M'Bride), during which Plunger obtained the leather and ran behind the posts, scoring another tiy which Lorden converted into a goal. The Arrow boys h >re seemed to brighten up, but the combination of the home team proved too good and C Gavin secured another try, but Lorden failed to goal. The ball, on being brought out, Gavin, "b~fo.rous play, soon after catiied it into the Arrow's twenty rives,' when Hotop got the ball and took a pot at goal, which, however, resulted in a poster. Shortly after two mote trys were obtained by Lorden and Edgar, neither of which were converted. Time was then called. The scores were : —Queenstown (2 goals 4 points), 10 points ; Arrow, nil. It would be invidious to single out anyone of the Queenstown team, each of whom played a good game. Of the Arrow boys Illingworth, Jenkins, Griffiths. Bennett, Delany and King were the pick and played a plucky loosing game. The umpires Messrs Golding (Arrow) and Mr T. Milaghan (Queenstown) and Mr W. G. Gavin, referee, gave every.satifsr.vtion. The »isitnrs were afterwards entertained by a very nice fpiead at the Mountaineer Hotel, and left for home at about 8 o'clock after a very pleasant days' outing, uotw ithstanding their defeat.
The return match (on the home ground) between Bannockburn and Queenstown has been fixed for Saturday, sth of next month.
