School Committee Elections, &c.

QUEENSTOWN MAIN SCIIOOL. The annual meeting of householders of the Queenstown school district was held on Monday at the school-room, Queenstown, when about twenty persons put in an appearance. Mr J. Reid, who was elected chairman, stated that the annual report and balance sheet were only made up to the 31st December last. This was in accordance with requirements of the Education .Act, although the meeting to consider them was not till the last Monday in April. The Chairman then read the annual balance sheet aud report. The latter was as follows : The committee of the Queenstown Miin School have mnch pleasure in submitting what they deem a satisfactory b-'.ance sheet. This satisfactory state of afl-irs is mainly due to the exertions of a mimhcr of ladies and gentlemen— including the master of the school—who were instrumental in getting up a very successful concert in August last, and to whom the host thanks of the eommitcee have iwn recorded. The expenditure included the folio* ing:—Cleaning school and outhnildings, £ls 16s Gd : fuel, £5 N 6>l; repairs, £2 lis Cii : spouting. £8 19s ; printing, £2 12s ; rates, candles, etc., £2 os od ; and balauoe in bank, £lB Is 3d. The report and balance sheet, as read, were adopted on the motion of Messrs Manders and W. J. Powell The Chairman, in reply to Mr Powell, said that all the members of the old committee might be proposed for re-election, but although r.c others were proposed, he thought, uiitler the Act, it was absoluff!y necessary that a ballot should be taken. Mr Matheson thought it would not be advisable to elect the old committee in a liody, as some members might object to be re-elected. After a short discussion it was decided to propose candidates separately, when nine were nominate;!, and the poll resulted in the return of the following:— Messrs F. \V. F. Geisow, J. Hoid, J. t. d. Waldo, J. (i. Bryant, R. Davidson, J. Bodkin and L. Hotop. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the business.

Immediately t!.c above a meeting of the new committee was held—all being present except Mr Hotop. Mr Reid was unanimously re-elected chairman, and Mr Hotop treasmer and secretary. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Davidson and Bryant—That the day and hour for the ordinary meetings be the same as formerly, namely, the last Monday in every month at S o'clock p.m." Resolved, on the motion of Messrs (Jeisow ami Bodkin—That the chairman and Messrs Davidson and Bryant be a Works Committee. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting. UPPER SIIOTOVER. The annual meeting of householders of the Upper Shotover school district was held on Monday evening at the Library Hall, Skippers Point, but only about a dozen people assembled. The annual balance sheet was read and adopted, ar.ri a vote of thanks to the retiring committee was carried. The following persons were proposed and <-lccted as members of committee for current year: —Messrs M. Fillipini, J. Aspinall, T. P. Richards, J. Bordeau, J. Stephenson, E. JSaiuslury and \Y. Craiyie.

Immediately after the public meeting, the new committee met, when Mr J. Aspinall was elected M 'hainnaii and treasurer, and .Mr M. Fdlipini u secretary. It was resolved to hold a concert and ball on the 20th May, to raise funds for the incidental working of the school, as the retiring committee was slightly in debt, ami the allowances of the Heard are insufficient to meet the requirements of the school—firewood alone costing sometimes £'J a year.

ARROWTOWN. The annual meeting for election cf new school committee, Arrowtown, took place in the sehoolhouse—Mr Miller in the chair. No formal balance sheet or report was hrourht up, and it was agreed to accept the treasurer's statement of accounts. The c.tly pennons present (seven) were elected as the new committee, namely :—.Messrs H. Graham, C. Ifav, W. Jenkins. A. M. Mackav, W. J. Marsh, J. A. Miller and J. Re;J. As the committee meeting Mr W. Jenkins was elected chairman ; Mr \V. J. Marsh, secretary, and Mr U. (jraham, treasurer.
