Mining Intelligence.

(FROM OUR OWS CORRESPONDENT.) The Phoenix Extended, Skinners, is still following up the line of reef with a doable shift of men, and, though stone is ofteo met with, the manager is looking for something better. Two crosscuts are also going north, trying to reach the north lodes of the Phoenix proper. A rise is also put up to meet some stone left in the workings of the old Otago Co. The work in connection with the machine is now nearing completion, and the race will probably be finished in a week or two. Dunlop Bros, are reported to have struck it "heavy" in Butchers' Gully, and are raising stone for a trial crushing. Johnson and Gower, it is reported, are also making preparations for haviug a trial quantity of their stone pat through at the Maori Point Co.'s machine. Dray and party will shortly submit five tons of stone as a test at the I'ruvnix Kxtendc.l machine, and Kichirds and party will follow suit with 50 tons of quartz from their claim at Butchers. The Gallant Tip, Upper Shotover. are clearing up, and the cake is expected down to-day or to-morrow. The Maori Point Co. have their machinery nearly ready to begin crushing. The Phoenix have had another slight accident to their electric machine, which has caused a stoppage, but things are being shaped into order again. Stoneraising is the order of the day, and prospecting in the mine has been suspended fur the time being. If the trial crnshiugs above referred to turn out at all well, a busy season may be expected next summer, as the locality of the new reefs has never been properly prospected, and is comparatively new country.
