Dunedin, This day, 11, a.m. James Blyth, late traveller for the Albion Brewing Corai»auy, and charged on remand with eml>ezzlement, has absconded, letting in his bailors. There are 48 entries tor the Dunedin St. Leger for 1880. Be C. Colclough's petition and section 1, block 27, Cromwell, the Waste Lands Board have resolved to have the land surveyed into allotments and sold with valuation for improvements, tho proceeds to go to the Borough Council.—A license was granted to E. Eldred to quarry limestone on five acres, section 25, Mid-Wakatip. The Education Board and Dunedin School Committee are in antagonism re interpretation of the Act. The Committee says it must be consulted before any teachers are appointed in its district, and refuses to allow two recent appointments to Albany-strtet school. The Board says it has power of itself. The Suez mail was delivered yesterday. Mr Pearson, of Invercargill, and Judge Harvey have been appointed to inquire into Mr H. J. Finn's charge against Mr Warden Stratford. The certificate of Captain Morgan, of the Ann Ganbles has been suspended for six months. LATEST. 4.50, p.m. Messrs Cargills have received a cablegram dated London, 27th, stating that the prices for crossbreds are firmer, and those for Port Philip and Sydney in grease and for scoured are equal to the closing rates of last series. Adelaide and New Zealand grease show an average decline of £d per pound. Compared with closing rates of last series there is an increase in the animation, but the prices for all superior classes are decidedly lower. Blyth escaped by going on board a schooner at Timaru, bound for Sydney, and on the detective going after him without a warrant Blyth and the crew assaulted him, and the vessel sailed before a warrant could be obobtained. ♦ CABLEGRAMS. The Council is summoned for to-day, when the* final resolution of the British Government is expected to be announced. Since the opening of the wool sales, 91,800 bales have been offered. The decline at the opening has since recovered except for crossbreds. • The Congress is to be held in June, and it is expected an early invitation will be issued to the Powers. LATEST CABLE NEWS.
London, 25th. Austrian troops are reported to have, by friendly arrangement, occupied Tchatchak in Servia. The Conference will meet on June 11th at Berlin, although Russian papers indignantly ask if reported Eussian concessions be true. Prospects of peace are materially improved. There has been some sharp fighting at the Cape, but Government troops are generally successful. Earl Bussell is dead. The Australian cricketers beat Marylebone by nine wickets. Scores—Marylebone, 33 and 19; Australians, 41, and 13 for one wicket. Spofforth took 11 wickets and Boyle 8.
