MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of above took place on the 15th instant. Present—Crs Boyne, Weiikheiui and Rogers. Cr Boyne was voted to the chair. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Outward correspondence was unimportant. Inward correspondence, read and received, cons sted of letters from the Mayor, apologising for unavoidable absence ; from the late Town Clerk, in reference to rates alleged to have been due by Mr Eichardt; from Mr Sullivan, offering to place gravel on roads at Is per yard ; and from Messrs G. M. Ross, Haines, Black and other residents in the locality, complaining of the inconvenience and annoyance suffered through the flooded state of right-of-way in block!. Ordered that letter from late Town Clerk be referred to the Finance Committee. The following accounts were passed for payment :—D. Sullivan, £i 16s 6d; and W. Warren, £4 4s 6d. Resolved that the Inspector of Works be instructed to inspect the right-of-way complained of by Messrs Ross, Haines, Black and others, and, if possible, have the work done ininie- - <4»>:ly. "Resolved that tenders be called for formation and gravelling Cemetery road, Melbourne-street, and completion of Shotover-street. Proposed by Cr Wenkheim seconded by Cr Matheson and carried—That Sullivan's offer be accepted for carting and lodging gravel at one shilling per yard according to the instructions of the Inspector. Proposed by Cr Boyne, seconded by Cr Rogers and carried—That the Clerk write to Mr Black and inform him that the drain in Shotover-street must not be closed by him ; and that in future the Council would hold him responsible for all damage done by the drain being closed. Proposed by Cr Rogers, seconded by Cr Matheson—That the Public Works Committee be empowered to instruct the Inspector of Works to make all repairs reported on either by tender or contract. Resolved that the Town Clerk write to the Minister of Public Works recommending the extension and enlarging the Queenstown Jetty, and reminding him of the promise made by the Superintendent to vest the jetty in the Queenstown Corporation, and that a Crown Grant may be issued as soon as possible. The consideration of repairs to fire engine, and organisation of a Fire Brigade was allowed to stand over till next meeting. The meeting was then adjourned till the 29th instant.
