MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
A special annual meeting of the above took place in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening, for the purpose of finally settling the auditors' balance sheet and statement for the year ending 31st March last. Present: —The Mayor and Councillors Boyne, Matheson, Rogers and Wenkheim. After some discussion as to the advisability of including the waterworks amongst the assets and*striking out one of the auditors' foot-notes. . A Committee, consistingof Councillors Wenkheim, Boyne and Rogers, was appointed to wait upon the auditors' and bring up report at an adjourned meeting on the following evening (vesterday). "At the latter meeting—At which, Councillors Boyne (chair), Wenkheim, Matheson and Rogers were present—further discussion took place, and finally, it was resolved that the Town Clerk be instructed to prepare a true statement of the assets and liabilities of the borough, and to bring up same at an adjourned meeting on the 29th instant. An adjourned special meeting was also held last evening to consider and pass the Burgess List —the same Councillors being present. The written opinions of the Corporation solicitor (Mr Finn) in reply to questions furnished him re arrears of rates, (fee., were read, and it was ordered that the Town Clerk place those ratepapers on the Roll who had, according to the solicitor's opinion, paid all rates due by them. It was resolved,—That the meeting stand adjourned till the 20th instant, in order to enable defaulting ratepayers to qualify themselves o be placed on the Roll for the ensuing year.
