QUEENSTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY.
A meeting of the Library Committee was held on Monday evening last. Present—Rev J. Jones (president), Rev D. Ross, and Messrs G. M. Ross, Malaghan, Boult, Rogers and Neill (acting secretary.) The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Rev Mr Ross, on behalf of the sub-com-mittee appointed to re-catalogue books, reported that Mrßeeby had undertaken the work of compiling a new catalogue. Proposed by Mr G. M. Ross, seconded by Mr Malaghan and carried—That the action of the sub-committee, in granting a life membership to Mr Beeby, in consideration of his undertaking to catalogue the works, and also of previous services to the institution, be endorsed by the Committee. Correspondence consisted of letters from Mr Aldred, resigning his office as librarian ; Messrs Brown, Coulls and Culling, Mills Dick and Co., and Warren, re cost of printing catalogues and by-laws. The resignation of Mr Aldred was accepted. Resolved that the Library be open every week-night. A discussion then took place as to the desirability of having the Library open all day long. Resolved, on the motion of Messrs Boult and Rogers—That applications, stating salary required, for the office of Librarian be advertised for. Applications to be received by, and information obtained from, the chairman up till the 20th instant at 8 o'clock, p.m.—the chairman to advertise the same in the local paper. Resolved that Mr Rout's resignation as Treasurer—given verbally by Mr G. M. Ross —be ECCGptod. Resolved that Mr Park, with his consent, be appointed Treasurer. Proposed by Rev Mr Ross, s3conded by Mr Malaghan and carried —That Mr Warren's tender for printing catalogues and by-laws be accepted. The meeting was adjourned to 20th instant.
