Theio were more than sufficient trucks on the wharves at Lyttelton yesterday, but owing to many watersiders holiday-making tho ‘Jiakapo, .katoa, Kilt awa and ilabika wore idle yesterday morning for want ot labour. Tho Orari was also one gang snort. Tho Katina is oxnectcd back on Saturday from Dunedin to load for Wellington and he*Baden Powell did not finish hor loading last night, consequently sho will not sail for Wellington until to-day. Tho Waicatu is due this evening from Wellington, via Kaikoura. , The Orepuki is due at the end of tho week from Grey mouth with a load of timber* Tho Caipo Colony was to leave Newcaatlo yesterday for Sydney, and is timed to .eayo the laTier port on Friday for Lyttelton with a load o! coal. - The B.L steamer Soalda loft Calcutta, on December 16 for Lyttelton, via Newcastle, Brisbane, Auckland and Wellington. The game company’s ship Ganges left Cajcutta on December 21 for Lyttelton, via Singapore, for New Zealand ports. The Katoa is to proceed to- Timaru with ft part oargo of coal from Westport. The Ilittawa’s movements on discharging are not yet known. The 'Manuka was timed to leave Wellington at 5 p.m. yesterday, but according to advice received it was likely that sho would. eail later, owing to having been hampered during the day by rain. Tho Bonelfa, at present in Wellington, is due here next week with a consignment of IjjOOO cases of oil. The lonio is to sail from Wellington at daybreak to-day for Southampton and London.

The Opawa is due here on Saturday from Wellington with Liverpool cargo for discharge. Tho Breeze was dispatched for Picton nnd ■Wanganui yesterday afternoon. The steamer Te Anau waa dispatched for ■Dunedin yesterday. The vessel will load at tho southern port and at Timaru for Napier and Gisborne. It is expected that she will call here after the New Year. The Waikawa, should complete her discharging of case oil, timber and general cargo at noon to-day, aftor which the vessel will be dispatched for Dunodin and Austrolian ports. The Poherua should finish her discharging to-morrow, but her next port of call is rot yet known. The Kakapo, on completing tho discharge cf her. consignment of timber for Lyttoltm, will proceed to Timaru with tho remainder. The Orari is now timed to leave Lyttelton early in tho New Year for Dunedin with tho balance of her general cargo from Liverpool. The vessel will commence loading at Port Chalmers, and will complete at Timaru and Wellington. Tho Storm will leave Dunedin on January 4 for TTinarn and Lyttelton, and should arrive heTe on January 5. The Calm is due hero to-day from Wellington. Sho should proceed to Dunedin to-night. The ’Wanaka is to leave Auckland to-day for Napier, Gisborne Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Bluff and Dunedin. The Armagh is now taking in another 40,000 carcases of frozen meat in addition to tho 30,000 she has already loaded at Lyttelton. Tho vessel will not now go to Napier, but will proceed to Wellington direct to-morrow to complete for Home. The Wtfimate is to sail from St Johns in January with general cargo for New Zealand ports. Tho Whakatane is to follow in February. The Union Company’s cargo steamer Wnitemata is completing her loading at Vancouver for Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney. A new departure is embodied in the extension of the Miramar wharf at Wellington, for which plans aro now being prepared. Tbo wharf will he extended to provide berthage for an ocean-going steamer and a large intercolonial collier. The Vacuum Oil Company, which is erecting oil-fuel tanks. ftt Miramar, has obtained permission to run a main down the wharf, so that oil arriving by tank steamers can be pumped into the shore tanks, and vessels requiring oil fuel can be bunkered at the wharf. This instal-
