PRIZE GIVING.
WALTHAM SCHOOL. Th« breaking-up ceremony took place in the school on Wednesday afternoon. Mr O. V. Harvey, chairman of the School Committee, presided, And introduced tho Mayoress (Mrs Thacker), who unveiled the second roll iff honour of old pupils. Tho Mayor then gave a very interesting address to the large gathering of parents and children, and afterwards presented tho prizes and certificates. Mr 1\ Menzies, president of the Primary Schools’ Sports’ Association, in presenting the cricket shield, congratulated the boyß on winning it for the second year in succession. He also complimented, both the football teams on their fine record during tbo past season, and presented tho winners of tho seven-a-side competition with their medals. The parents inspected the exhibits' in flower deooration end in cookery. Tlio exhibition of Bchool work in one of tho rooms proved a very attractive feature. The annual distribution of prizes at tbe Opawa School took place in St Mark’s schoolroom, and was hold in conjunction with the crowning ceremony of the Bazaar- Queen, when Miss Doris Jarden, who was ably assisted, by her three maids of honour. Misses Elsie Virtue, Eunice Weakley and Joan Cornish, was installed Queen of the Opawa Sohool Carnival. - ' ASHLEY. The Ashley schoolroom was well filled with parents and children last Wednesday afternoon at the annual break-up of the school. The Rev Knight, of Leithfield, presided . and presented the prizes and certificates won by the scholars. Later on Santa Claus arrived and distributed gifts from the Christmas tree, much to the delight of the little ones. Races were.afterwards run in tho playground, and afternoon tsa dispensed, the weather adding greatly to the enjoyment of the afternoon. The proceedings concluded with a dance in the evening.
