Steady rain was falling yesterday morning at eleven o’clook, the appointed hour for the continuation of play in tho interprovincial match, Wellington v. Canterbury, and » deoision as to resumption was deferred for half an hour in the hope that the isin, would clear off. At the end of this period there was no improvement in the weather conditions and a postponement was agreed upon until two p.m. As tho rain was still steadily falling at two o’clock it wa3 deckled to abandon any idea of play for the day. The ’bnatch will be resumed at eleven o’clock this morning.
PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH.
AUCKLAND BEATS HAWKE’S BAY. [Per Press Association'.] AUCKLAND, December 27. The Plunket Shield rnatoh between Auckland and Hawke’s Bay was concluded today, Auckland winning by an innings and 354 runs. Hawke’s Bay continued their first innings in reply to Auckland’s 537, but compiled 130 only. Following on, they scored but 53, being completely outclassed by the homo team. Scores: —
