PERSONAL.
The death has occurred at Hastings of Mr Paul J. Murphy, at the age of seventy-one years. Mr Murphy came to New Zealand forty years ago. After some years spent in Wellington, he acquired a farm in the Pahiatua district, where he took an active interest in, local public affairs. Twelve years ago he purchased a dairy farm at Mahora North, where he spent the remainder of his days. For fhe last four years he was a member ■ of the Hawke’s BayLicensing Committee, and at all times took a keen interest in matters relating to the dairying industry. 4 ■ On December 22 an early colonist passed away suddenly at his residence in Linwood in his sixty-eighth year. The late J ames Napier was horn in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and with his parents came to New Zealand in the ship Indian Empire in the year 1864. After various experiences, his parents took up land at Hororata,. and were actively associated with all local interests. The late Mr James Napier engaged in farming at Brockley for a number of years, during which time ho was intimately connected with the Hororata Racing Club. Subsequently he took up a storekeeping business at Belfast, and forth© last few years has been living a retired life. He leaves a widow, three sons and one daughter. Three of his sons served in the recent war, and one, Captain D. G. Napier, was killed in action in Belgium.
