B. M’CLEARY E NTERTAIN ED. On h'is return to Christchurch after a successful trip to Brisbane in quest of the Australasian amateur heavy-weight boxing championship, Mr Brian M’Cloary was entertained by a number of members of the Marist Football Club, of whioh he is a prominent member. Mr George Payne, in making the champion a very handsome present, referred to tho popularity of the recipient both on and off tho football field, and in and out of tho boxing ring. Ho had been one of tho lending players of Canterbury, and as an athlete had earned the highest honours in am*teur uport by winning tho Australasian boxing championship. „ . . Mr F. Smytho. captain of the Manets Club, also spoke in oulogietio terms of the champion boxer. ' ‘ Mr M’Cle-ury, in reply, said that he was pleased to have brought back a championship to New Zealand, whioh to the other members of the team was a set-off to the bad luck that they had experienced. He had seen Maddocks fight in Brisbane, and considered that he should bo champion. He thanked his olub mates for their very fine present, and hoped to be doing battle for his football club again next season.
