SUMNER BURGESSES ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting; of the Suouiw Burgesses' Association was hold in the Council Chambers on Saturday evening, tho presidont (Mr Q. F. Allen) in tho chair. Reporting for the sub-committee on the proposals for a more up-to-date fire-fighting plant, the secretary stated that from inquiries made it was quite evident that the residents were a public subscription. Messrs D. liumsden, J. Carter and the Rev W. M'Ara contributed evidence showing that there was a general feeling that the money should be raised by means of a loan, and a small general rate struck by the council. On tho motion of Mr F. C. Malpos, it was decided to petition the Borough Council to raise the money for Superintendent J. Carter's scheme.
It was resolved to endeavour to secure a tram shelter for the Clifton stop, on the lines promised by a resident some time ago. One or two recommendations to the Tramway Board with respect to the running of early morning and evening express cars were agreed upon, and the meeting decided to bring them under the notice of the representative for the district. The war memorial oame un for discussion, and it was decided to bring tie matter under tho notice of the Mayor. A general discussion took placo upon the advantages of extending the present boat harbour, so that small cargoes of coal, wood, etc., could be landed at Sumner. Information regarding soundings, taken at the request of the late Mr T. E. Taylor, were received, and it was agreed to hold the discussion over for a later meeting.
