MR ELL IN REPLY.

TO TH3S EUITOR. , , Sir,—ln reply to Mr Machin. No 0110 spoke to me when I was leaving the meeting. The following statement was not made in my presence: —" Mr Machin said that Mr fill had wasted six months of the time of the committee by bringing forward technical objections.” My reply to this assertion is that I lrnve been working effectively for the past six months of which fact the publio are well aivftre—in making the porch at the tram termimis ready as a refreshment room and the other addition to the building—tho shelter wall and verandah, I have had no help from the committee and no thanks for what has already been done. The committee have in their minute book full particulars (which 1 supplied) of the land needed for public reserves, yet nave made no attempt to raise money to pay for the land- I drafted a specie, appeal for money to go on with the track from Cooper's Knob. The committee turned the proposal down four months ago. I got n Government grant of £250 for the purpose of continuing the formation of a walking track bn from Cooper’s Knob towards Kaituna Rest House and the committee objected to this work, although Of public importance. ” For fourteen or. fifteen weeks the means of communication between the tram terminus and Kennedy’s Bush was by means of a little tray gig in which firewood was oarted —this was by order of the committee. I protostec —there was a light drav and four horses idle any one of which could have been used in the dray. Mr Machin had better try and find a more valid excuse; for tbe inaction of the committee.—l am etc. H. G. ELL.
