THE D.W.S.

TO TUB EDITOR. Sir,—Your theory concerning the boot trade and unemployment is _ only partly true. The mam and simple cause is the splendid determination of the D.W.S. (Do Without Society) formed for their protection from the profiteers" (whom the Government declines to prosecute). One has only to note the universal use being made of rubber by all classes of boot wearers to say nothing of the large numbers of amateur boot repairers who have been forced to do their own repairing, and which the usual bootmaker will never fully recover again. The profiteers have done a splendid thing for moat, workers and made them more thrifty. Personally I advise the general public to join the D-W.S. and let profiteers keep their stocks till out of date and worthless—l am etc. SCOTTY.
