Mr D. N. Scott, Crown Lands Ranger, who met with a motor accident recently is more seriously injured than was at first believed. It will be quite ten days or a fortnight before he can resume his duties.

Mr F. W. Greenwood, scientific agriculturist, recently appointed Government Instructor in Agriculture, is to take up his duties in Wellington on December 1. Mr F. E. Ward, of Wellington, will be transferred to CanterburyCouncillor George Whitford, who slipped whilst working on the boat-slip at West Lyttelton on Wednesday, and received internal injuries which necessitated liis removal to a hospital, is repotted to lie progressing satisfactorily.

Before commencing on the ordinary business on Saturday evening, the president of the Sumner Burgesses' Association, Mr G. F. Allen, made feeling reference to the bereavement suffered by Mr S. K. Bassett and family of Richmond Hill. A resolution of sympathy was carried, members standing.

Mr Albert Cuff, who died at Auckland on Saturday, was in business in Christohuroh for many years. He was a menber of the firm of Cuff and Graham, at one time wejl-known in connection with shipping business. The late Mr Cuff for some years was a member of the City Council.

The fdlorciriz have been appointed the Upper Ri.-carton Domain Board:— Messrs Percy Owen \nderson, Arthur Biggs, Benjamin Bucknell, Granville Edward Curry, Henry English, Albert Freeman, James Frederiok Holmeß, Thomas Olivant Newnham and Samuel Albert Staples. The Domain is Reserve 3926, formerly part of Rural Section 68, Block X., and has an area of 6 acres 3 roods.

At Timaru on Saturday a number of leading citizens and country residents bade farewell and presented a souvenir address to Mr W. F. Alexander, who recently resigned the editorship of the " Timaru Herald," after occupy in g the position for ten years, to become editor of the " Dunedin Star." The Mayor, Mr Raymond, presided, and on behalf of the townspeople, expressed high appreciation of Mr Alexander's sen-ices., especially during the war period, and his impartial treatment of all public questions. Mr J. Maling, who was Mayor during the war period endorsed the Mayor's eulogy. The " Herald" proprietors and staff presented Mr Alexander with a cheque, with assurances of the highest esteem. The signatures to the address included those of borough councillors and M.P.'s. The late Mi- George S. Kissling, whose death was announced by Press Association telegram on Friday, was a prominent citizen of Auckland, havmg been identified with many _ local bodies. For some time he was chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board aud Mayor of Parnell, as well as being a member of the Charitable Aid Board. The deceased, who was a son of the Ven G. A. Kissling, archdeacon of TVaitemata, was born in Wclton, Yorkshire, England, in 1841, and a year later was brought out to New Zealand. After being educated at St. John's College, Auckland, he joined the staff of tho Bank of New Zealand. He becamo manager of the Auckland branch, and remained in that position until 1899, when he resigned to engage in business on his own account. The late Mr Kissling was secretary of the Waiotahi Gold 'Mining Company and secretary and attorney of the New Zealand and River Plate Land Mortgage Company. Throughout the mining boom period he held the position of secretary to the Chamber of Mines. ffl
